Ukraine’s air force said that 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia overnight were destroyed by anti-aircraft defences. The drones launched from Russia’s Krasnodar Krai were destroyed as they approached Khmelnytskyi Oblast along different routes, it said. Ukraine’s Air Force said that the Russian overnight drone strike was targeting Ukrainian bombers.
The Khmelnytskyi Oblast hosts the Starokostiantyniv Air Base where the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade, operating Su-24 aircraft, is stationed. Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat said that Moscow’s attack was in response to an attack against a Russian shipyard in Sevastopol. Kyiv claimed to have struck two Russian vessels in Sevastopol on Sept. 13 with British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles.
