He labeled Trump a threat to democracy, citing the 2021 attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters attempting to overturn the election results. Biden characterized Trump’s actions during that period as one of the worst derelictions of duty in American history.
The President asserted that Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election and his dismissal of millions of votes, despite numerous court rulings affirming Biden’s victory, amounted to a severe breach of duty. He referred to Trump as a “loser,” earning applause from the audience. Recent polls suggested a competitive race between Trump and Biden in swing states, with Trump leading in some key areas.
Expressing gratitude to Black voters in the South for their crucial role in his presidential win, Biden promised to return to South Carolina before the Democratic presidential primary on February 3. Following his public address, the President held a private meeting with families and survivors of the 2015 church shooting, commending the congregation for their forgiveness in the face of tragedy.
