This Is Basically Mind Reading (For Real)

This is basically mind reading: Researchers just reconstructed a Pink Floyd song using the brain activity of people listening to it.

Neuroscientists at UC Berkeley played 29 patients Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1” and they recorded their brain activity with implanted electrodes. Then, they used a regression-based model to decode the brain signals and reconstruct the song.

It’s clearly not perfect, but you can hear the resemblance. Some are talking about using these findings to compose music directly from brain waves, but these scientists’ goal is to make current neural prosthetics sound more natural. It truly feels like we are on the cusp of decoding our brains, and it’s incredible.
