We can all agree that chicken wings are the best finger food ever created, right?
As a chicken wing connoisseur, I love wing joints that shoot their shot with new wing sauce flavors, along with the spots that take pride in mastering a timeless staple: Old fashioned buffalo wings.
Spice is the variety of life, after all.
Wingstop toes this line very well, with a remarkably consistent menu. They only have 11 sauces on the menu, which means they don’t play with my emotions like Taco Bell does when they remove beloved staples like the cheesy fiesta potatoes.
That’s why new Wingstop flavors are such a big deal.
Two years ago they introduced two “remix” flavors, both with a wonderful balance of heat and new flavor. Ancho Honey Glaze and Harissa Lemon Pepper. Ancho Honey Glaze was the perfect sweet heat sauce, with a nice kick of spiciness from smoky dried ancho peppers and aged cayenne. Harissa Lemon Pepper was like a spicy version of Wingstop’s classic lemon pepper rub: Zesty, a bit smoky, and a distinct brightness. Like lemon pepper with bit of a bite.
Starting on Valentine’s Day, Wingstop is introducing three remix flavors:
- Hot Lemon features the fire of OG Hot and the classic zest of Lemon Pepper.
- Bayou BBQ is inspired from the flavor-mixing voodoo of New Orleans and takes the brand’s smoky, classic Hickory Smoked BBQ spiked with a hit of Cajun seasoning.
- Lemon Garlic combines two iconic flavors by tossing and saucing wings in Lemon Pepper and finishing them with a Parmesan topping to ultimately create a zesty, buttery and cheesy tasting experience.
In a press release, Wingstop is calling it a “hallmark event.” I agree because new Wingstop flavors are a rarity. Also, according to the company, Valentine’s Day is their second busiest day of the year after the Super Bowl.
“The fans are always at the center of everything we do, so we’re continually listening to their feedback on social media and the demand for the return of these flavors was made clear across the nation,” said Wingstop Chief Marketing Officer Christina Clarke. “Wingstop is a top destination for Valentine’s Day – a time that’s all about who and what you love. We love the fans and we know they love these remixes, which makes Valentine’s Day perfect for their reintroduction.”
I can’t wait to try them all, but I think I’m going to like Hot Lemon the best. I love the idea of jazzing up buffalo wings with the right amount of lemon. I’m also excited about the Bayou BBQ; thanks to the hickory, I’ve always felt that Wingstop’s BBQ sauce is a little smokier than most BBQ sauces yet lacks any heat. I’m excited about what it tastes like with cajun seasoning in the mix.
Wingstop’s Hot Lemon, Bayou BBQ, and Lemon Garlic flavor remixes will be available nationwide beginning February 14 through June 21.
