Hundreds Gather On Sydney's Bondi Beach To Mourn Westfield Attack Victims

Hundreds of people gathered for a candlelight vigil on Bondi Beach on April 21 to pay their respects to the victims of a fatal stabbing attack at a nearby shopping centre.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended the vigil alongside New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, relatives of victims and police, including Inspector Amy Scott who confronted and shot the attacker.

Six people were killed and 12 hurt during the stabbing attack at Westfield Bondi Junction on April 13 – one of the city’s worst violent crimes in recent years.

In a speech at the vigil, Albanese paid tribute to “all the possibility and potential, all the kindness and humanity, all the love and laughter of the six lives snatched away”.

Members of the community who attended the vigil spoke of the emotional impact it had on them, with one resident holding back tears as she said she hoped the event would allow her to “move on”.
