US reimposes sanctions on Venezuela’s oil and gas sectors over election concerns

The US has reinstated oil sanctions against Venezuela’s government, arguing it has not met conditions to hold fair and competitive elections as negotiated with US envoys and the opposition last year.
However, the US oil company Chevron will be allowed to continue a joint venture with the Venezuelan state oil company.
