Israeli strike on Iran's consulate in Syria: A legitimate target for attack? | DW News

United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres has condemned an air strike on an Iranian consular annex building in Damascus on Monday. A statement from Guterres reiterated that diplomatic consular premises must be respected in accordance with international law.

Iran has blamed Israel for the attack which killed at least thirteen people. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says one of its senior commanders was among those killed. Mohammad Reza Zahedi was a top general with Iran’s Quds Force, which oversees covert operations abroad. Several other officers were killed.
