Clashes in Turkey amid local elections key to Erdogan's AKP | DW News

As some 60 million people in Turkey go to the polls in local elections, one person has been killed and a dozen more injured in clashes between two groups in the country’s Kurdish majority southeast. Ballots are being cast in what is being seen as a key test for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s conservative AKP party. In Turkey’s biggest city Istanbul, which is governed by the secular opposition, polls suggest a neck-and-neck race.
