Cross-border incursions into Russia: Could this backfire on Ukraine? | DW News

The Russian city of Belgorod close to the Ukrainian border has ordered shopping centers and schools to close temporarily, in response to the latest barrage of shelling.

Just 40 kilometers from the border, Belgorod has repeatedly come under attack in the past months. The region’s governor says two people were killed in Saturday’s missile attack. Russian forces claim to have downed some of the incoming rockets from Ukraine.

In a separate incident in the Belgorod region, Russia’s defense ministry says it thwarted an attempt by Ukrainian militants to carry out a cross-border raid.
