In Myanmar, thousands of young people are trying to get out of the country. It’s not a recent trend, but an apparent new spike is being driven by the Military Junta’s plans for a mandatory conscription law.
In recent weeks, many have tried to flee to neighboring Thailand in order to escape that military service. It comes at a time Myanmar’s government is struggling to contain armed rebel forces fighting for greater autonomy in some parts of the country.
