The White House has announced $300 million in military aid for Ukraine. This bypasses the US Congress, where Republicans have blocked a much larger aid package.
According to Jake Sullivan, Joe Biden’s national security adviser, the package includes a large number of artillery shells. It is made up of money negotiated by the US Department of Defence from previous arms purchases.

The US is seen as Ukraine’s most important ally in its defence against Russian aggression. Since the war in Ukraine began in February, the Biden administration has provided more than $44 billion in military aid to Kiev.
