Alabama hospital suspends in-vitro fertilization after Supreme Court ruling | DW News

The largest hospital in the US state of Alabama has suspended in-vitro fertilization treatments. The decision a ruling by the state’s highest court that says frozen embryos, or fertilized eggs, are the legal equivalent of children.The hospital says it must evaluate whether its patients or doctors could face criminal charges or punitive damages for involvement in IVF treatments. The ruling by the all-Republican Alabama Supreme Court has put into question the future of IVF, which is considered one of the best treatments for patients who want to have children,but struggle to conceive naturally.
