Escape from Gaza: Tala and Yazid reach safety in Egypt | BBC News

Israel is facing international pressure to abandon plans for an all-out offensive on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, where around 1.4 million people have taken refuge.

Rafah is close to the border with Egypt but the crossing there is closed, preventing people from escaping to safety.

BBC News has been following the story of one young woman – Tala Abu Nahleh – and her disabled brother Yazid. They tried to escape from Rafah several times but were repeatedly turned back at the border.

Now they have managed to escape to safety in Egypt’s capital Cairo.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Fergal Keane and Paul Adams.
