Ukraine is reportedly struggling to meet its demand for soldiers amid a grinding counteroffensive against Russian troops. Ukraine has also taken heavy troop casualties in the war, with a particular surge since the launch of the counteroffensive. Though mobilisation forbids men under 60 from leaving Ukraine, thousands still try to sneak out, mostly across the Carpathian mountains to Romania. On August 22, the Ukrainian police carried out searches at more than 200 recruitment facilities across the country amid an ongoing counteroffensive.
