Thailand is known for its zero-tolerance policy for those convicted of drugs charges.

But that approach has not been working and even in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, narcotics trafficking in Thailand is set to reach new records in 2021.

However, a new narcotics bill with a different approach was passed in the Thai parliament this month.
It emphasises prevention and treatment for small-scale users instead of prison time – and includes tougher measures against organised crime.
