At least 59 homes have been destroyed in the bushfire that’s ripped through more than 8,000 hectares in Perth’s east.

The fire broke out at Wooroloo on Monday but has since spread to include a much larger area.

DFES Commissioner Darren Klemm said the fire was continuing to present “challenging conditions,” with an 80-kilometre perimeter and more than 200 firefighters expected to work into Tuesday night.

“It is terrible news for the owners of those homes, and our thoughts are with them all,” he said.

“A process now will be undertaken. The rapid damage assessment team will continue.

“The work they have done today, that will continue this afternoon and tomorrow.

“There is a likelihood that the number of homes lost will increase once that work has been completed.”
