‘YOU DESERVE A RAISE’: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivers updates on Canada’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Yesterday, Trudeau unveiled plans to raise wages for essential workers, including those working in long-term care, hospitals, and senior care centers. ‘If you’re risking your health to keep this country moving and you’re making minimum wage, you deserve a raise,’ he said. While specifics are still being worked out, he said that the federal government, working with governments from Canada’s provinces and territories, would spend $4 billion ($2.9 billion USD) to increase wages for those workers. Canada currently has 66,201 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has seen 4,541 deaths to the virus.
