Councilman Ritchie Torres is the first openly gay person elected to represent the 15th council district in Central Bronx. Since he was first elected in 2013, he has been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, in business, health care, and legislation
Torres: I think members of my generation the millennial generation and generation Z have a strong ethic of social justice. We’re demanding greater social responsibility from businesses and part of what it means to be a socially responsible business is to diversify your supply chain ensure that there is LGBTQ representation in your contractors and in your supply chain. And so that’s the incentive for business to embrace LGBTQ contractors. It’s a demonstration of social responsibility. It’s a message to millennials like me that we are a business that’s committed to social justice.
