Who better to appoint as the new U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services than an actual Big Pharma executive like Alex Azar? According to President Trump, Alex Azar’s the best guy for the job, as Untied States Secretary of Health and Human Services, because “he knows the system better than anyone.” Trump promised Azar would work to lower the cost of prescription drugs, except, according to a report by the Associated Press, only 46 name-brand drugs have decreased in price compared to the 4,412 that have increased.

On top of pushing Big Pharma’s talking points, Alex Azar’s HHS was also responsible for the migrant children detained in U.S. facilities. Under his leadership, the department was unprepared for the number of detained children and their facilities quickly reached capacity.

Between September 2018 and May 2019, 6 children died, either in U.S. custody or shortly after leaving. Some newly reunited children also showed signs of suffering severe psychological trauma. Azar claimed that separating children from their families was life-saving work calling it “one of the great acts of human generosity” performed by the HHS.
