In the face of increasing wildfires, hurricanes, droughts, and reports that warn of even more dire consequences of climate change, NYC Council Member Rafael L. Espinal Jr. says cities can do their part to roll back the tide of global warming. ‘Throwing up our hands is not an option,’ Espinal says, instead cities could embrace bold solutions without federal government action. WE can reduce waste by encouraging composting, getting rid of single-use plastics, installing green roofs on buildings, requiring emissions-free vehicles, and protecting and expanding green spaces. This city-level efforts can serve as a model for governments around the world.
