This woman and her husband were both transgender service members in the U.S. military — now they’re fighting on behalf of their community for the right to exist.

Laila Ireland is a retired combat nurse who served 2 tours in Iraq. Her husband Logan Ireland is an active Air Force staff sergeant. Together they’re fighting to make life better for trans service members. Part of that battle is opposing President Donald Trump’s proposal to reinstate a ban on transgender people in the military that was lifted in 2016 by President Obama. Laila joined the military in 2003 and began her transition in 2012 her husband Logan joined the Air Force in 2010 and began transitioning in 2012. They’re featured in a group of transgender service members in the new documentary called ‘TransMilitary.’
