Philadelphia Eagles football player Malcolm Jenkins, former football player Anquan Boldin and their nonprofit organization the Players Coalition are fighting to change the criminal justice system in the United States. Currently a criminal record can haunt your life and put employment, housing, or education permanently out of reach. There’s a lifelong stigma on having a criminal record and it might be making us less safe. The Players Coalition helped pass the Clean Slate Act in Pennsylvania this year. The act automatically clears the criminal history of non-violent past offenders if they’re crime-free for a certain period of time. Jenkins hopes that the Clean Slate Act can be implemented on a national level.
