At least 18 people have been killed and dozens injured after a series of blasts in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State on June 29. The attack was allegedly carried out by female suicide bombers who targeted a wedding, a hospital and a funeral on the same day in the town of Gwoza, which lies across the border from Cameroon. In one of the attacks, a woman carrying a baby on her back “detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) she had on her at a crowded motor park”. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings. Gwoza has been the centre of Islamist insurgency by Boko Haram over the past 15 years which has killed thousands of people and displaced millions more.
