DR Congo Thwarts Attack On Presidential Palace Amid Growing Crisis | 3 Killed In “Attempted Coup”

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) army said it repelled an attempted coup in the capital Kinshasa, involving Congolese and foreign fighters on May 19. At least three people were killed in Kinshasa following a shootout between armed men in military uniform and guards of a top politician. Two guards and an assailant were killed in an attack on the home of Vital Kamerhe, a member of parliament, tipped to become speaker. A Facebook page, likely belonging to Christian Malanga, a US-based politician, posted a video in which he appeared to be leading the attack.
