37 Killed In Indonesia As Heavy Rains Trigger Flash Floods, Cold Lava Flow

Heavy rains unleashed devastation on Indonesia’s Sumatra island as torrents of cold lava and mud cascaded down Mount Marapi, triggering flash floods that claimed the lives of at least 37 people and left several injured. The catastrophe struck Agam and Tanah Datar districts in West Sumatra province, where overflowing rivers breached their banks, engulfing mountainside villages under a deluge of water. National Disaster Management Agency officials reported extensive damage, with over 100 homes and structures submerged. Rescue efforts, hampered by the treacherous conditions, retrieved bodies from multiple districts while dozens remained missing. The disaster compounds the region’s woes, following recent deadly floods and landslides.
