Schools open in Afghanistan — for boys | DW News

In Afghanistan, schools have opened for a new academic year – but only for boys, with girls banned from joining secondary-level classes.

More than two and a half years have now passed since girls over the age of 12 were first banned following the Taliban’s rise to power. Law makers have repeatedly promised girls would be readmitted, but the ban remains in place with no explanation.
