The United States and other countries are warning Israel against a ground invasion of Rafah, the southern Gaza city where more than 1 million Palestinians are sheltering after being displaced from elsewhere in the territory. “This is disproportionate, excessive force that is meant to terrorize a population,” Palestinian human rights attorney Noura Erakat says of Israel’s war on Gaza. “Israel must stop its genocidal campaign now.”
