After encircling Khan Younis – what are the IDF’s plans for the coming days? | DW News

Israel says it has surrounded the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza as its forces expand their ground offensive. The Israeli military says it is targeting Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist group by multiple countries.

Israel earlier told hundreds of thousands of civilians to evacuate the area around Khan Younis and head towards the Mediterranean coast or further south towards the border with Egypt. The World Health Organisation says that the situation in Gaza is getting worse by the hour, while an Israeli commander called it the most intense day of combat since the ground offensive began.

For more on this, we talk to journalist Sami Sockol who is standing by in Jerusalem.

And we talk to Christian Lindmeier. He works at the World Health Organization and joins us from Geneva.
