The looming US shutdown and it's potential consequences | DW News

The US Congress is once again the scene of a showdown leading to a shutdown. This weekend, on Saturday at the stroke of midnight, the US government will grind to a halt.An attempt on Friday to get a stop-gap funding bill passed did not make it. This is about more than lawamkers missing a deadline. It is about political dysfunction. Republicans willing to compromise against Right-wing Republicans refusing to bend on anything. And it is also about numbers. A Republican supported bill in the House would most likely not survive in a Senate dominated by Democrats. Aid for Ukraine becomes a sticking point in negotiations as House of Representatives rejects bill to temporarily fund the government. And the country’s most prominent Republican is urging his colleagues to let the shutdown happen.
