With less than one year to go until next June’s European elections, EU institutions and member states are facing a race against time to conclude negotiations on a raft of key laws before legislators down tools and the campaign starts next spring.

At the same time, Europe’s political leaders are already starting to position themselves for the campaign. Some political parties will pick a Spitzenkandidat, and all will agree on a common election platform in the coming months.  

Meanwhile, Russia’s occupation of Ukraine continues to reshape the geopolitical landscape and the EU’s place in it.
