Donald Trump says peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are set to begin “immediately” after crunch two hour call with Vladimir Putin.
The high stakes talks come in a desperate bid to end the three year-long war in Ukraine which has left tens of thousands dead.
Trump said on Truth Social: “Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”
But the US president did not offer any indication of a time frame for the ceasefire talks.
Putin spoke to Russian state media after coming off the call and admitted that he must make a peace deal with Ukraine.
But warned that both parties must be willing to compromise in order to come to a deal.
