Heavy rain has continued to lash Thane and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region over the past few days, causing waterlogging, traffic disruptions and tree fall incidents in several areas. The Free Press Journal visited the Thane station premises to assess the ground situation and found comparatively less waterlogging than during last year’s monsoon.
While many commuters said movement around the station remained largely smooth, several Thanekars were also seen stepping out to enjoy the rainy weather. At the same time, severe waterlogging was reported from Turbhe on the Thane-Belapur Road and parts of Bhiwandi.
The Thane Municipal Corporation says it has deployed pumps, activated its 24×7 disaster control room, and placed emergency teams on standby at vulnerable locations. But with the monsoon expected to intensify in the coming weeks, the real test of the civic body’s preparedness still lies ahead.
