Locals Report Damage, Experts Warn Aravalli Mining Could Worsen Heatwaves

The Aravalli mountain range, one of the world’s oldest geological formations, is facing increasing pressure from legal and illegal mining activities. Residents in Rajasthan say mining has depleted groundwater levels, damaged farmland, and caused cracks in homes due to frequent blasting.

Environmental activists claim significant portions of the Aravalli ecosystem have already been lost, while experts warn that continued degradation could weaken a natural barrier that protects North India from dust storms, desertification, and extreme heat.

Ecologists caution that if the Aravallis continue to shrink, the environmental consequences could extend far beyond Rajasthan, affecting Delhi and the Gangetic plains.
