US troops are facing a growing crisis of conscience as the war with Iran enters its sixth month. The Center on Conscience and War, a US-based human rights body, said applications from service members seeking conscientious-objector status have surged since the Iran war began in February 2026. The organisation said it has assisted around 140 service members since the war began, compared with roughly 50 cases in a typical year. But the concerns are not simply about battlefield danger. In this video, we address the apprehensions being faced by US service members, some of whom say they are struggling with the moral and ethical implications of the orders they are being asked to carry out.
