Nirav Modi’s Sister Purvi Mehta Must Appear in Mumbai Court; VC Plea Rejected

Mumbai: In a significant development in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, the Special CBI Court has rejected Purvi Mehta’s request to record her statement through video conferencing, directing her to appear before the court in Mumbai.

Purvi Mehta, Nirav Modi’s sister and a Belgian national, had sought permission to testify remotely after expressing her willingness to become an approver in the case. She has denied knowledge of the alleged transactions and maintained that she had no connection with the alleged proceeds of crime.

The CBI opposed her request, arguing that an accused cannot choose to avoid physical appearance before the court. Accepting the agency’s contention, the Special Court ruled that Mehta must appear in person before her plea to become an approver can proceed.
