Indian Teen’s Death May End Central Park Horse Carriages | Romanch’s Law, Family’s Emotional Plea!

New York City is moving closer to ending horse-drawn carriages in Central Park after the tragic death of 18-year-old Indian student Romanch Mahajan. What began as a family trip to celebrate graduation turned into heartbreak on June 17, after a carriage accident in Central Park. Now, Romanch’s Law is gaining momentum at City Hall, with lawmakers and Romanch’s family calling for change.

Speaker Julie Menin has backed the bill, while Romanch’s aunt Sovia Thukral delivered an emotional plea: “Please remember his name.” The proposed law aims to phase out horse carriages by June 2028, marking a major shift in New York’s decades-old tradition.
