An explosion at the Liushenyu coal mine in Shanxi province, China, has killed at least 90 people, with nine still missing. The blast occurred at about 7.30pm local time on Friday, when more than 240 workers were underground.
Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered an all-out rescue effort and a prompt investigation. The accident, believed to have been triggered after a carbon monoxide alert, is estimated to be China’s deadliest coal mine disaster since 2009. https://cna.asia/3RpakVK
