Russia launched one of its largest combined missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, firing around 600 drones and 90 missiles across the country, including a hypersonic ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
President Zelensky, speaking to Al Jazeera after surveying damaged sites in Kyiv, condemned the strikes as deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, including the recently opened Chornobyl Museum.
Russia says the assault was retaliation for a Ukrainian strike on a student dormitory in Russian-occupied Luhansk, which Kyiv denies.
A Ukrainian defence adviser vowed further strikes on Russian oil refineries in response.
Al Jazeera’s Audrey MacAlpine reports from Kyiv, Ukraine.
