The political atmosphere in Maharashtra is heating up as the municipal elections draw closer. Voting will be held on January 15, 2026, with counting scheduled for January 16, 2026. Elections are being conducted for 2,869 seats, prompting all major political parties to intensify their campaigns through rallies, meetings, roadshows and marches.
One of the most significant political developments this election season is the coming together of the Thackeray brothers. After their first joint meeting in Nashik, their first political meeting in Mumbai is set to take place at the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Park—a venue deeply rooted in Maharashtra’s political history.
Ahead of the rally, Free Press Journal spoke to MNS and Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) workers at Shivaji Park, capturing the mood on the ground. Many workers expressed excitement and optimism, calling the joint appearance a potential turning point in Mumbai and Maharashtra politics.
