What does it take to become an astronaut? Meganne Christian, who grew up in Australia, is undergoing astronaut training at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.
She became a member of the European Space Agency, surpassing more than 22,000 applicants to land a spot as an astronaut in reserve in 2022.
Her sister Anneke Wright, who runs a martial arts school, says she wasn’t surprised to learn that her sister claimed one of 17 spots.
“I’ve always known that Meganne is an exceptional person. She’s won so many academic awards that that’s obvious. But that’s only one part of Meganne,” Anneke says.
Together they share a love of Hapkido, and Anneke says that looks forward to the day when Meganne can share a video of her performing the martial art in outer space.
