After more than two years of extreme drought, water has returned to Lake Chilwa in southern Malawi, reviving the hopes of thousands of fishing families.
At its worst, the shallow lake dried up completely.
People walked across its bed, and communities lost their main source of income almost overnight.
Now the boats are back on the water, but erratic rainfall combined with climate change mean recovery is anything but certain.
Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi reports.
