Flight tracking data showed the aircraft operating near the Strait of Hormuz after reportedly taking off from a US base in the United Arab Emirates. The tanker later appeared to turn towards Qatar before vanishing from tracking systems. The US military has not confirmed a crash, hostile action or technical failure. The incident follows recent American aircraft losses in the region, including an MQ-4C Triton drone. Reports also point to billions of dollars in U.S. military equipment losses since February.
