John Healey, the defence secretary, has said he authorised British naval and air force support for the US interception of the Marinera.
In an emergency statement to the House of Commons, he confirmed that the UK provided bases and Royal Navy and RAF assets, including airborne surveillance and RFA Tideforce. No British personnel were involved in the boarding.
