The World Health Organization said the risk of a deadly global hantavirus outbreak remains “absolutely low”, but warned more cases could emerge. Health officials are racing to trace passengers who left the MV Hondius cruise ship before the outbreak was detected. Three people on board died from the virus. The WHO has confirmed five cases so far. Meanwhile, the two Singapore residents being monitored for possible hantavirus symptoms have tested negative. They will be quarantined for 30 days from the date of last exposure and will be tested again before being released. CNA spoke to Adjunct Associate Professor Shawn Vasoo, who is the National Centre for Infectious Diseases’ executive director.
