This week, Donald Trump managed to blow up two of his so-called “special relationships” — one with Britain, and one with his favourite tech billionaire, Elon Musk.
First, he slapped fresh steel tariffs on the UK, trashing the much-hyped post-Brexit trade deal that Keir Starmer had boasted about just weeks ago. Then, in a dramatic fallout, Musk publicly denounced Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” as a “disgusting abomination” — lighting a fire under the Republican donor base.
Meanwhile, Trump stayed silent for days as Ukraine carried out a devastating drone strike on Russian nuclear-capable aircraft — and when he finally responded, it was with a friendly call to Putin.
Britain’s grovelling post-Brexit strategy lies in tatters. Trump’s chaos is accelerating. And his likely successor could be even worse.
