Israel just opened a new front — this time against a NATO ally. Israel struck the Abu al-Duhur airbase in northern Syria after warning Damascus not to allow Turkish troops to deploy near Aleppo; Syria ignored the warning, Israel struck without notifying Turkey, and US diplomats say only “calm heads” prevented Turkish jets from scrambling against what could have looked like an incoming attack on them. Thirty-six hours later, Israeli soldiers entered a Syrian village in Quneitra, drawing condemnation from Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Kim walks through the two-year arc: Israel occupying Syrian buffer zones since Assad’s fall, striking T4, Palmyra and Hama sites Turkey had planned to use, Israel formally recognizing the Armenian genocide as a deliberate diplomatic rebuke to Ankara, the NATO summit where Trump backed F-35 sales to Turkey over Israeli objections, and Mark Levin calling the US ambassador to Turkey “Erdogan’s lapdog.”
