In late 2024, I was invited to examine and handle the Grand Admiral’s baton of Karl Dönitz, the commander of the wartime German Navy, and the last leader of Nazi Germany. Here is the story of how it ended up in a museum in the UK, and also of the existence of two other similar batons with interesting back stories.

If you would like to see the Dönitz baton, please visit The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum at Shrewsbury: https://www.soldiersofshropshire.co.uk/about-us/

Dönitz’ car pennants from the day of his arrest in 1945 can be viewed at The Herefordshire Light Infantry Museum: https://herefordshirelightinfantrymuseum.com
