Kevin O’Leary is under fire after accusing critics of his massive Utah AI data center project of acting like proxies for China, sparking outrage from local residents already worried about water use, energy demands, and environmental fallout. But things got even messier after the two women O’Leary publicly called out by name fired back with a mocking social media video, clowning the accusations, roasting the billionaire investor, and turning his attempt to shame critics into an internet spectacle. David Shuster breaks it down on Rebel HQ.

On this episode of Stock Movers:

– AMD (AMD) Nvidia’s nearest rival in AI chips, predicted accelerating sales growth over the next five years, driven by strong demand for its data center products.Annual revenue growth will average more than 35% over the next three to five years, Chief Executive Officer Lisa Su said Tuesday at a company event in New York. AMD’s AI data center revenue will increase by an average of 80% over the same time period, she said. The company projects adjusted profit to reach more than $20 a share, and the operating margin to exceed 35%, in that time frame, executives said.

– Fedex (FDX) expects profit this quarter to improve from a year ago, easing investor concerns about a lackluster holiday season and volatile trade policies.Adjusted earnings in its fiscal second quarter, which concludes at the end of November, will surpass the $4.05 a share the courier generated last year, Chief Financial Officer John Dietrich told investors Tuesday at an industry conference. Analysts are anticipating $4.02 a share on average in estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

– CoreWeave (CRWV) shares tumbled after the cloud-computing provider reported its third-quarter results and said a data center delay would impact fourth-quarter expectations, prompting JPMorgan to downgrade the stock. Analysts note that the supply constraints are short term but highlight execution risks.
See omnystudio.com/listener (https://omnystudio.com/listener) for privacy information.

Wyoming’s data center boom

Cheyenne is no stranger to data centers, having attracted facilities from Microsoft and Meta since 2012 due to its cool climate and energy access. However, the new project pushes the state into uncharted territory. While Wyoming is the nation’s third-biggest net energy supplier, producing 12 times more total energy than it consumes (dominated by fossil fuels), its electricity supply is finite.

While Tallgrass and Crusoe have announced the partnership, they haven’t revealed who will ultimately use all this computing power—leading to speculation about potential tenants.

A potential connection to OpenAI’s Stargate AI infrastructure project, announced in January, remains a subject of speculation. When asked by the Associated Press if the Cheyenne project was part of this effort, Crusoe spokesperson Andrew Schmitt was noncommittal. “We are not at a stage that we are ready to announce our tenant there,” Schmitt said. “I can’t confirm or deny that is going to be one of the Stargate.”

OpenAI recently activated the first phase of a Crusoe-built data center complex in Abilene, Texas, in partnership with Oracle. Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s chief global affairs officer, told the Associated Press last week that the Texas facility generates “roughly and depending how you count, about a gigawatt of energy” and represents “the largest data center—we think of it as a campus—in the world.”

OpenAI has committed to developing an additional 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity through an agreement with Oracle. “We’re now in a position where we have, in a really concrete way, identified over five gigawatts of energy that we’re going to be able to build around,” Lehane told the AP. The company has not disclosed locations for these expansions, and Wyoming was not among the 16 states where OpenAI said it was searching for data center sites earlier this year.
