A Colombian national acting on behalf of Russian intelligence carried out two arson attacks in Poland last year, before setting fire to a bus depot in the Czech Republic, the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW) said on Tuesday (July 29).

Speaking at a press conference in Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed that Polish prosecutors and security services have confirmed these sabotage attempts were carried out at the direct request of Russian intelligence services.

“We currently have 32 suspects and detainees,” Tusk said, adding that those implicated include Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Colombian nationals. One suspect has already been convicted and is currently incarcerated, while others are awaiting trial.

The Russian embassy in Warsaw, responding to a Reuters inquiry, said it does not comment on such unfounded accusations.

Poland has been a target of sabotage, which officials say is part of a “hybrid war” waged by Moscow to destabilize countries that support Ukraine in the war with Russia, involving tactics like arson and cyberattacks.

Russia has in the past denied involvement in such attacks.

In May, Poland summoned the Russian ambassador and said it would close the Russian consulate in Krakow. At that time, Polish authorities claimed they had evidence linking Moscow to a massive fire that nearly destroyed a Warsaw shopping center in 2024.
