Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo are warning that the Ebola outbreak has not yet reached its peak. The Red Cross says it could take up to a year to contain the deadly virus.
Insecurity in the country’s eastern region is hampering containment efforts.
More than 70,000 displaced people are living under siege-like conditions in a displacement camp in Ituri Province, the epicentre of the outbreak.
The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC has now risen to 837.
Nearly 200 people have been killed by the disease.
Dr Jean Kasey, The head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, told Al Jazeera that this Ebola outbreak could become one of the worst ever recorded, and more resources are urgently needed to improve contact tracing in DRC.
